WASHINGTON, DC -- The nation's new first lady, Melania Trump, wore a custom-designed powder blue suit Friday at the presidential Inauguration Day festivities for her husband, President Donald J. Trump. The public got its first peek of the outfit when the new first family made their way Friday morning, at about 8:30 a.m., down the steps from Blair House to a service at St. John's Episcopal Church and then to the White House for a pre-swearing in tea on the South Portico of the White House. When they arrived at the White House, Melania Trump handed a wrapped gift from Tiffany jewelry store to Michelle Obama when they arrived at the White House.

Donald Trump was wearing a navy suit, white shirt and his trademark red tie.

The Trumps, Obamas, former presidents, members of Congress and other dignitaries then gathered at the U.S. Capitol Friday morning for the 12 noon swearing-in of Trump as the nation's next president.

Melania Trump, a former model, was wearing matching gloves, hat and coat in the same powder blue hue, in the custom-designed ensemble from the Ralph Lauren Collection, NBC's Today Show and Vogue reported.

Here's a description of Melania Trump's Inaugural Day outfit from Vogue:

"The powder blue skirt suit, matching gloves, neat clutch, and stiletto shoes recalled the elegance of Jacqueline Kennedy at the inauguration of John F. Kennedy in 1961. The shape of the suit was certainly a nod to ’60s sophistication: The cocoon-like jacket with 3/4 sleeves and the to-the-knee hemline, paid tribute to Oleg Cassini, a Kennedy favorite."

USA Today described Melanie Trump's outfit as a "cashmere cropped jacket and mock turtleneck dress, suede gloves and a suede clutch, all in sky blue. In a departure from her usual shoulder-sweeping blowout, she wore her hair in an updo."
