Is More Snow Coming To The DC Area Soon?

Meteorologists are watching a potential coastal storm late this week to early next week.

WASHINGTON, DC — We got a small taste of winter on Tuesday as the snowflakes started flying briefly in the D.C. area. And now there's a chance that some more could be on the way.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang puts their "snow potential index" at one out of 10 currently, stating that they were looking at a potential storm in the coming the days.

"Iffy that much happens, but there is a potential coastal storm or two to watch late this week into early next week," they said on Twitter. "There's also some cold air around."

In their full report, CWG wrote that a low pressure system was organizing off the southeastern coast on Friday. What it does is anyone's guess at this point, but they are keeping a close eye on it.

The system could cause clouds to increase on Sunday and perhaps some precipitation resulting in a wintry mix, provided it's early enough.

"Anything that makes it here (if it makes it here) looks quite light and inconsequential for now, but the situation is worth monitoring as we close in since these systems sometimes sneak toward us," they wrote.

In the meantime, expect a break from the cold on Friday when temperatures creep up into the upper 40s and lower 50s. However, the cold air is going to come roaring back, sending Friday night lows into the upper 20s to mid 30s.

By Monday we may get back up to a high of 50 degrees, but that's still solidly cooler than average for this time in November, when temperatures tend to top out in the mid to high 50s.
