VIRGINIA/DC — Home prices remain on an upward swing across the region. In some closer-in areas of Northern Virginia, any house with three or four bedrooms that is priced below $1 million often is considered a bargain.

In the outer suburbs, prices also are surging, with May median sales prices more than $104,000 higher than a year ago. Inventory in Loudoun County, for example, remains tight. However, new listings rose for the second straight month, providing more options for eager buyers, according to the Dulles Area Association of Realtors.
