Police Shoot, Kill Deer On Metro Tracks In DC: Report

Police reportedly had to kill a deer that wandered onto the tracks in D.C. over the weekend.

WASHINGTON, DC — A deer that wandered onto the tracks between the Takoma and Fort Totten Metro stations in D.C. had to be "humanely dispatched" by Metro Transit Police, according to a report.

The Washington Post reports that police shot and killed the deer, resulting in a 10-minute delay on the Red Line.

The deer died instantly from one shot, the Post reported, citing a WMATA spokesman.

The deer apparently was already suffering from some sort of injury

One witness at the Fort Totten station told the Post that he heard a loud bang and then saw the deer move a little bit about a few dozen feet from the platform.

Once the deer's remains were removed, trains continued to operate.
