WASHINGTON, DC — A woman is accusing a D.C. shelter of kicking her and her 1-year-old daughter out into the cold while she was just days away from giving birth, according to a report.

WJLA reports that Shadon Freeman, who was 9 months pregnant, says she was escorted out of the building and had to stay on a sidewalk with her baby until a passerby gave her cab fare to Howard University Hospital where she spent the night.

She gave birth to her second daughter just five days later, according to the report, which noted that the shelter claimed she was a Maryland resident despite her evidence that she lived in D.C.

She says she lived in Maryland years ago and the shelter used that against her. She went to the Virginia Williams Family Resource Center at 920-A Rhode Island Ave. NE.

The head of D.C. Human Services says they don't kick out people with nowhere to go and cast doubt on the woman's story, WJLA reported.
