Quirky Triangle-Shaped House Being Built In DC: Report

When finished, it will certainly be one of the most unique properties in the city.

WASHINGTON, DC -- A seemingly wasted triangle-shaped green space closed in by city streets is being put to good use with a new three-story house that is beginning to take shape.

The plot is surrounded by North Capitol Street, Blair Road, and Madison Street in Northeast in the Manor Park neighborhood.

If you drive by that plot now, you won't see an oddly out-of-place patch of grass -- but rather an oddly out-of-place and quirky looking triangular home that even has a tiny front yard.

The triangle-shaped lot is a quirk of how the city was built in the late 1700s and early 1800s, WAMU reports. As the D.C. grid began to expand, it would encounter some informal country roads, which is what happened when North Capitol Street was extended north to Blair Road.

There are actually other triangle-shaped lots in the city. Some are owned privately, as this one was, and some are owned by either the D.C. government or the federal government. Dave Thomas Circle is a good example of one, as the intersection of New York Avenue, Florida Avenue, and First Street NE creates a triangle where a Wendy's now sits.
