Sen. John McCain To Lie In State At U.S. Capitol Friday
The public is invited to pay their respects for the six-term senator Friday afternoon.

WASHINGTON, DC — After ceremonies in his home state of Arizona, Sen. John McCain will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol Friday.
McCain died Saturday after a battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 81 and would have turned 82 on Aug. 29.
A private ceremony will take place in the Capitol Rotunda at about 11 a.m. before the public is invited to pay their respects.

All visitors must enter through the Capitol Visitor Center and will be directed to the Rotunda from about 1-8 p.m.

The public may begin lining up Friday morning on First Street, NW/SW, between Constitution and Independence Avenues, or Second Street, NE/SE, between East Capitol Street and Independence Avenue, SE, until the U.S. Capitol is opened to the public at 1 p.m., the United States Capitol Police said.
No flowers, sealed envelopes, or other offerings/tokens will be allowed into the U.S. Capitol or Capitol Visitor Center, police said.
The following streets are closed from 11 p.m. Thursday to about 11 p.m. Saturday:
- East Capitol Street NE/SE, from Second Street, NE/SE, to First Street, NE/SE
- First Street, NE/SE, from Constitution Ave., NE, to Independence Ave., SE
