Metro's Shaw-Howard University Station reopens after being closed due to high-standing water.

Update (Sept. 11, 8:37 a.m.): Metrorail's Shaw-Howard University Station reopened at 5:15 a.m. Friday, after being closed Thursday afternoon due to high-standing water.
WASHINGTON, DC — Metrorail's Shaw-Howard University Station is closed due to high-standing water, according to an alert from Metro. Riders on the Green and Yellow lines are encouraged to use Metrobus Route 70 between the Mount Vernon Square and Shaw-Howard University stations.
According to the National Weather Service, a flash flood warning was issued Thursday through 4:30 p.m. in the District of Columbia, southeastern Arlington County, southeastern Fairfax County, and the City of Alexandria. Forecasters say thunderstorms producing heavy rain were detected by Doppler radar around 1:28 p.m. At least 0.5 to 1.5 inches have fallen, and flash flooding could begin or be ongoing.

Areas to watch for flooding include small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, drainage areas and low-lying areas.
