Teen Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of DC Amateur Boxer

After a months-long search, a teen was arrested for the fatal shooting of Aujee Tyler, an accomplished amateur boxer from Southeast DC.

WASHINGTON, DC — After a months-long search, a teen was arrested for the fatal shooting of an accomplished amateur boxer from DC.

Police arrested Kaevon Sutton, 17, of no fixed address on Friday, June 29. Sutton was charged with the first-degree murder of Aujee Tyler in April, and police have been searching for him since.

The shooting occurred at about 4:37 p.m. on Monday, March 19 in the 3500 block of Stanton Rd. SE.

The victim was identified as Tyler, 22.

The Washington Post reports Tyler, who was also known as "Quick," won many amateur boxing championships and wanted to go professional.

“When he was in shape, when he was on his A-game, he could do things I’ve never seen anyone do,” Dusty Hernandez-Harrison, a young boxer in DC, told The Post. “Pound for pound, the best I ever saw as an amateur. And I could find 20 other people around boxing who’d tell you the same thing.”

Tyler left behind a wife and three children.

"Aujee Tyler was a awesome and godly man and was well known by everyone, he was a legend," a GoFundMe page that raised money for his funeral states.

Sutton was found in Ohio and was transported to DC by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, police said. He was charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.
