Teen Suspects In Fatal DC Carjacking Could Get Plea Deal: Reports
Two girls, ages 13 and 15, who were charged with the murder and carjacking of an Uber Eats driver in D.C., could be offered a plea deal.
WASHINGTON, DC — Two girls, ages 13 and 15, who were charged with the murder and carjacking of an Uber Eats driver near Nationals Park, could soon reach a plea deal with prosecutors that would ensure they will not be held past the age of 21, according to reports.
The victim, Mohammad Anwar, 66, died March 23 when police said the girls, armed with a taser, sped off in his car as he clung to the driver's side with the door open and crashed seconds later just outside Nationals Park in Southeast D.C.
Anwar, who lived in Springfield, was working at his job as an Uber Eats driver delivering food in D.C. when the girls allegedly carjacked him. A video shared by a witness on Twitter shows the carjacking that led to his death.

An outpouring of support has come in for the family of Anwar. A GoFundMe for his family had brought in more than $1 million as of Monday afternoon.
Last week, the girls appeared via video in D.C. Superior Court as their lawyer and prosecutor, Bonnie Lindemann, discussed the case with Judge Lynn Leibovitz.

Lindemann gave no indication that her office would try to transfer the older teen's case to adult court, according to reports. Under D.C. law, the 13-year-old could not be prosecuted as an adult due to her age. The 15-year-old suspect could be charged as an adult only with a judge’s permission, according to The Washington Post.
The judge set the next court date for April 20 to discuss the status of the case.
Police have not identified the juvenile suspects, one of whom is from D.C. and the other is from Fort Washington in Prince George’s County.
A D.C. police spokeswoman said one of the girls is suspected of being involved in an earlier carjacking in January, the Post reported.
In juvenile court, if the teens are found “responsible,” they can be held in a juvenile detention facility only until age 21, even in a murder case.
