WASHINGTON, DC — The White House was placed on lockdown for a brief period Tuesday morning after an airspace violation, but reports indicate it may have been a false alarm.

Fighter jets were scrambled and the White House was locked down due to a violation of the restricted airspace in the National Capital Region. A U.S. Police spokesperson told Patch that the aircraft entered the airspace at around 8:27 a.m., and the situation was cleared at around 9:12 a.m.

"In an abundance of caution, the USCP began monitoring the situation for any potential threats, and as a result, access to Capitol Complex buildings was restricted for a short time," the spokesperson said.

However, reports indicate that a "blip" on the radar was all that authorities ever saw, and no one ever found the supposed aircraft.
