Woman In Wheelchair Injured In D.C. House Fire

Wednesday afternoon's blaze at a Northeast home left four people homeless, says D.C. fire department.

WASHINGTON, DC — Firefighters rescued three women on Wednesday afternoon from a fire at a single-family home in the 5700 block of Clay Street NE, according to D.C. Fire and EMS. The fire department responded at about 3 p.m. to the blaze at the two-story house, and one of the women, who was in a wheelchair, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The other two women were treated at the scene, the fire department said.

The firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and by Wednesday evening, investigators were looking for the cause of the fire. Overall, four adults and a dog were displaced, and the Red Cross was summoned for help.

The fire appears to have started in the home's basement, fire officials told WJLA-TV Channel 7.
