Florida Has 15 Best STEM High Schools: Newsweek
Newsweek named 500 schools the nation's best for science, technology, engineering and math, including 15 in Florida.
FLORIDA — When it comes to science, technology, engineering and mathematics, Florida has 15 of the best 500 high schools in America, according to a new ranking. Newsweek released the list recently, based on data from STEM.org.
Top science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) schools range from "high-profile institutions in big urban areas" to "small but strong programs across the nation," Newsweek Global Editor in Chief Nancy Cooper wrote in a statement with the rankings.
In Florida, 14 of the 15 institutions that Newsweek deemed as the best STEM schools are private.

Here are all the STEM schools in Florida that earned a spot on the list:
- No. 19: Pine Crest School, Fort Lauderdale (private)
- No. 46: Ransom Everglades School, Coconut Grove (private)
- No. 82: American Heritage School - Plantation Campus, Plantation (private)
- No. 99: Berkeley Preparatory School, Tampa (private)
- No. 123: Trinity Preparatory School, Winter Park (private)
- No. 141: Archimedean Upper Conservatory (AUC), Miami (public/charter)
- No. 162: American Heritage School - Boca Delray Campus, Delray Beach (private)
- No. 293: NSU University School, Davie (private)
- No. 337: Shorecrest Preparatory School, St. Petersburg (private)
- No. 366: Saint Andrew's School, Boca Raton (private)
- No. 368: Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, Miami (private)
- No. 399: Belen Jesuit Prep School, Miami (private)
- No. 427: The Community School of Naples, Naples (private)
- No. 458: School for Advanced Studies - South, Miami (public)
- No. 495: David Posnack Jewish Day School, Davie (private)
To come up with the rankings, educational research company STEM.org used a proprietary regression analysis. It assessed data from the second quarter of 2015 through the third quarter of 2019 to find out which schools in America best offer students experiences in STEM while preparing them for post-secondary outcomes, such as college or careers. The rankings took into consideration affluence and median household income, among other factors, according to Newsweek.

Texas had three schools crack the top 10 best STEM schools overall in the country, including the top two institutions. School of Science and Engineering, located in Dallas, Texas, was ranked as the No. 1 STEM school in the United States.
STEM schools in eight different states made the top 10.
- School of Science and Engineering: Dallas, Texas
- School for the Talented and Gifted: Dallas, Texas
- Stanford Online High School: Redwood City, California
- Bronx High School of Science: Bronx, New York
- University of Chicago Laboratory Schools: Chicago, Illinois
- Liberal Arts and Science Academy: Austin, Texas
- The Early College at Guilford: Greensboro, North Carolina
- Maine School of Science and Mathematics: Limestone, Maine
- Cranbrook Schools: Bloomsfield Hills, Michigan
- Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science: Worcester, Massachusetts
