CITRA, FL - A Marion County deputy shot and killed a man at the Phoenix House drug treatment center Thursday afternoon, the sheriff's office said on its Facebook page. Deputies were called to the center about 12:53 p.m. as a probation and parole officer requested assistance in locating and arresting the man. The man fled as deputies and a probation officer arrived to arrest him.

The 30-year-old man has not been identified because his family members have not been notified. The shooting took place in a wooded area near the treatment center in Citra. Deputies said the man had violated his drug-offender probation.

The sheriff's office released this statement on its Facebook page: "As deputies responded, the suspect fled to a heavily wooded area behind the property. When approached, the subject was uncooperative with deputies’ demands and then violently confronted the pursuing deputies. It was at this point when one of the deputies shot and killed the suspect. This deputy is a 12-year veteran with the MCSO."
