Marketside Green Beans, Squash Recalled For Possible Listeria

Most of the Marketside brand green beans and butternut squash products were retrieved before being sent to retail stores.

A Florida-based company has recalled select bags of Marketside brand green beans and butternut squash because of possible listeria contamination, according to the FDA.

The recalled products were shipped to one retail distribution center and most of the product was retrieved before being sent to retail stores. However, the FDA said some of the product shipped on Feb. 17 may have reached select stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The FDA said it was making a public announcement out of an abundance of caution.

Southern Specialties, the company that announced the recall, has not received reports of any illnesses associated with the recall.

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and in those with weakened immune systems. The FDA says the infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
