'My Boyfriend Is Threatening Me': Woman's Note Leads To Rescue
Deputies arrested Jeremy Floyd, a convicted felon, after his "visibly injured" girlfriend told authorities he repeatedly beat her.
DELAND, FL — A Florida woman who was beaten by her live-in boyfriend and threatened at gunpoint was rescued at an animal hospital after she handed a worker a note that read "Call the cops," authorities said. The 28-year-old woman was beaten by her boyfriend Wednesday and had to spend Thursday bedridden due to a head injury she suffered in the attack, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post Saturday night.
On Friday afternoon, she convinced her boyfriend to let her take their dog to DeLand Animal Hospital on the 1500 block of North Woodland Boulevard, authorities said. He insisted on going with her and brought a loaded handgun with him, authorities said. He then threatened to kill her and her family on the drive to the vet, the sheriff's office said.
At the hospital, she managed to slip a note to a staff member. It read: "Call the cops. My boyfriend is threatening me. He has a gun. Please don't let him know."

Deputies were then called because the woman had been beaten at the couple's home on the 900 block of South Amelia Avenue.

Deputies arrested Floyd, a convicted felon, after his girlfriend — who was "visibly injured" — said Floyd repeatedly beat her Wednesday night, threatened her at gunpoint, and physically prevented her from leaving their home.
"During the incident, the two struggled over the handgun and it was discharged inside the house," the Facebook post said.
Deputies took the woman to Florida Hospital DeLand where she was treated for her injuries, including a head injury, a black eye and bruised arms.
Deputies then took her home and found two bullet holes in a hallway, which passed through drywall and into another room.
Floyd is charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and simple battery, authorities said. He remains held at the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bail allowed.
