Watch: Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing On I-75

A small plane made an emergency landing on Interstate 75 near Gainesville on Thursday afternoon. No one was injured.

GAINESVILLE, FL - A small plane made an emergency landing on Interstate 75 near Gainesville on Thursday afternoon, according to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office Facebook page. The plane landed on the northbound side of the interstate near Williston Road.

Alachua County deputies said all lanes of the interstate are now open. The incident did back up traffic for hours. The airplane was towed to a nearby rest area.

Deputies said the plane was on a training flight from Ormond Beach to Gainesville. A student and a flight instructor Michael Moore of Sunrise Aviation in Ormond Beach were on the plane , the Gainesville Sun reported. Moore took control of the airplane when engine trouble occurred, according to Sunrise Aviation General Manager Patrick Murphy.

Moore and the student were not injured. No vehicles were struck during the landing.

The Cessna aircraft was headed for Gainesville Regional Airport.
