FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — The accused Parkland school shooter is facing additional charges after he allegedly made an obscene gesture and then attacked a deputy at the Broward Sheriff's Office Main Jail on Tuesday.

Keyla Concepcion of the Broward Sheriff's Office said that the incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Fort Lauderdale jail where the accused shooter has been awaiting trial since the horrific Valentine's Day massacre in which 17 students and faculty were killed. Numerous others were wounded.

Concepcion said that the accused shooter attacked a Broward Sheriff's Office detention deputy. Patch is withholding the name of the accused shooter at the request of the families of Parkland victims.

Arrest documents said that BSO Sgt. Beltran told the accused school shooter to "not drag his sandals on the ground while walking around the dayroom area" to which the accused shooter responded with an obscene gesture.

"Beltran advised that as he began to stand up, [the prisoner] rushed him and struck him in the face," court documents said. "Beltran indicated that he and [the prisoner] then got into a physical altercation that resulted in Beltran going to the ground and [the prisoner] taking Beltran's conductive electronic weapon ... from him."

Andrew Pollack, whose daughter, Meadow, was killed in the massacre, told a television news crew: “They should have finished what he started. That’s what they should have done. They had their opportunity last night.”

Court documents said that the deputy’s device discharged in the scuffle as the deputy tried to regain control. No one was struck by the weapon.

The documents said that the accused shooter struck the deputy with his left fist and could be seen on surveillance video laying on top of him as he used his right fist to strike the deputy multiple times on top of his head.

In addition to the charges stemming from the school shooting, the accused shooter is now facing three new charges, including assault and battery on an officer.
