No-Swim advisory signage, which also warns people to avoid other water recreational activities such as fishing and boating has been placed in the affected areas: Northeast 183rd Street to the north, Oleta River State Park Beach to the south, Biscayne Boulevard to the west and the Intracoastal Waterway to the east. Greynolds Park is also within the affected area.
While the emergency repair is being completed by WASD staff, the overall Island Boulevard/Northeast 183 Street upgrades/pipe replacements are being expedited due to the vulnerability of this pipe segment and the environmental impact. The contractor for the larger project will be onsite Tuesday morning. The pipe replacement construction project is scheduled to be completed by March 2022.

“Making infrastructure repairs to aging wastewater pipes is a critical priority to protect our clean water and ensure the health of Biscayne Bay,” said Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “My administration is working urgently to identify, repair and replace pipes starting with our most vulnerable infrastructure, and this pipe has been prioritized for emergency replacement.”
The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County and the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources is testing the posted waters and the advisory remains in effect until two consecutive days of clear testing occur after repairs are completed. We will continue to communicate with the public until the advisory has been lifted.
It is the priority of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department to provide safe, reliable service to its customers. For additional information about Department services and programs, visit the WASD website.
