Tri-Rail Commuter Train Jumps Track; No Injuries Reported
Tri-Rail officials expected "significant delays" Tuesday night after a train carrying 200 people jumped the track.

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL — A Tri-Rail commuter train carrying 2oo passengers jumped the track in Broward County at the start of Tuesday's rush hour but no one was injured, according to railroad officials. The southbound train had just left the Deerfield Beach station and was headed to Miami.
Bonnie Arnold of Tri-Rail told Patch that the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. She said that the train was only traveling about 5 mph, which lessened the potential impact to passengers.

"The wheels came off the track. It is derailed," she explained. "There was no damage or derailment to the passenger cars. We are able to pass trains through that area very slowly but we do have a backup bus bridge set up in case we have to resort to that."
Arnold said that commuters should expect "significant delays" as a result of the incident. She added that officials did not immediately know what caused the train to jump the track.
