Park Square Cellar Shuts Doors On Eve Of Annual Wine Fest

Park Square Cellar in FishHawk surprised customers with notice of its closing, which reportedly is temporary, "for concept renovations."

Facebook notices were plentiful this weekend as word spread online that a favorite FishHawk business had closed its doors on the eve of the eighth annual Fall Wine Fest, which was expected to draw a lot of business to Park Square, "the heart of the FishHawk community."

"Attention," read the notice to Park Square Cellar customers and employees, which had been posted at the Park Square Cellar bistro, bar and and wine boutique, at 16132 Churchview Drive in Lithia. According to a picture of the sign, posted on Facebook, it read as follows:

  • "Park Square Cellars is currently under NEW MANAGEMENT and OWNERSHIP. At this current time we will be closed for concept renovations. We will be reopening in a couple weeks with a new and exciting concept. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and we hope to see you soon. Thank your for understanding!"

That "understanding," though, appeared to be tested, with numerous Facebook posts asking questions about such things as the monthly wine club and the viability of unused gift cards.

Also, concern was expressed about the timing of the closing, given that the wine festival attracts both residents and people from outside the community and that other Park Square businesses had been both preparing for and counting on a larger-than-usual turnout and uptick in business.

An event notice at Park Square Cellar online announced that the 8th Annual Fall Wine Fest was to be Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15, from 1 to 4 p.m. Also, that Two Beats One Band had been scheduled to play Sept. 14 from 8 p.m. to midnight.
