Save Your Vision with Batman vs. Superman ... watching 3D movies can help detect sight problems
UnitedHealthcare provides tips for detecting eye disorders

March is Save Your Vision Month. What does that have in common with Batman vs. Superman? Watching these superheroes fight crime and save the world in 3D might help you or your children score 20/20, or “perfect,” vision in the process.
According to the American Optometry Association (AOA), 3D movies can help identify vision problems because 3D technology requires eyes to process information in a different way. The recent AOA “3D in the Classroom” report concludes that about one in four kids might have vision problems that can be detected with 3D viewing.
After watching a 3D movie, look for these “3D” signs. And, if you experience them, visit your eye doctor:

1. Discomfort: Eyestrain can occur when the eyes have trouble working together as a team over long periods of time.
2. Dizziness: Similar to the queasiness of car sickness, this issue is caused by poor eye alignment.

3. Depth: The inability to appreciate 3D vision means your experience may be less vivid than that of others around you.
In addition, more Americans are at risk of developing digital eyestrain, defined as “physical discomfort felt after prolonged exposure to digital screens and can result in symptoms such as dry and irritated eyes, blurred vision, eye fatigue, neck and back pain, and headaches.” Nearly nine in 10 adults spend more than two hours each day using a digital device, according to The Vision Council. To help prevent digital eye strain, people should keep computer screens about 30 inches away from their eyes; rest their eyes every 15 minutes; and blink frequently, which reduces dry eye and helps maintain eye health.
