Supporting fitness and life skill development, UnitedHealthcare partners with Girls on the Run Greater Tampa Bay
More than 300 6th grade girls "graduate" at Let it Snow 5K

In addition to Let it Snow 5K support, UHC’s financial and in-kind services included 16 Girls on the Run training scholarships, 10 of which went to girls at Chasco Elementary in Pasco County. Race-day participants also received complimentary pedometers and Healthy Eating guides made available at the UHC table in the race area village.
UnitedHealthcare’s (UHC) partnership with Girls on the Run Greater Tampa Bay helped 305 6th grade girls from 22 Tampa area elementary schools “graduate” from their 10-week 5K training and life skills development program on Sat., Dec. 12, 2015 at the Let it Snow 5K in Tampa, Fla. Held at Hillsborough Community College (HCC) Dale Mabry Campus, more than 600 runners and walkers participated in the event, as well as friends and family members who came out to cheer everyone from start to finish.
UHC’s financial support also included 16 Girls on the Run Greater Tampa Bay fall training program scholarships to girls with financial need. Ten of these went to Chasco Elementary in Port Richie, four to Sandy Lane Elementary and two to Dream Center of Tampa. To keep participants and their supporters on the healthy living and exercise track, UHC also handed out complimentary pedometers and Healthy Eating Guides at the Let it Snow Race Village Area prior to the race start.

The race and its proceeds commemorate and help fund the Girls on the Run training program in the Greater Tampa Bay Area, which has grown from six participating schools in 2013 to the more than 22 schools for the fall training program and race. “At Girls on the Run, we talk a lot about having an Attitude of Gratitude,” said Girls on the Run Council Director Laura Moore. “We all thank UnitedHealthcare for being amazing and strong supporters of Girls on the Run.”

Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in the 6th grade. The girls are taught life skills through dynamic interactive lessons and running games.
