Jake's Wayback Burgers To Open In FishHawk This Week

FishHawk Ranch resident Mark Van Dame said he will open his eatery this week, in a long-vacated storefront in his hometown.

The opening for Jake's Wayback Burgers has been pushed back a couple days, to Thursday, Aug. 15, at 10:30 a.m., with a promise from FishHawk resident and managing partner Chris Scigliano that "the food here is made the way you would get it in an old-time diner."

Jake's Wayback Burgers is set to open in the Publix-anchored shopping center, at 5672 FishHawk Crossing Blvd.

Quality food made from scratch and hand-dipped milk shakes served in stainless steel cups, in a restaurant featuring an open-view restaurant, are the benefits touted for a trip to the upcoming eatery, according to an earlier Bloomingdale-Riverview Patch posting.

Scigliano said the restaurant's owner is Mark Van Damme, also a FishHawk resident. Both men have kids in local schools and the aim is to be deeply involved in the community, and with the sports teams across the street at the FishHawk Youth Sports Complex, where Scigliano said he once worked the baseball fields concessions stands.

"We're not going to be just a store in your community," he said. "We're going to be a part of your community."

Scigliano said he also worked as an area manager for Auntie Ann's pretzels, for a territory that included the Westfield Brandon shopping mall, and at the Aquatic Cafe at the FishHawk Aquatic Club.

"People ask, 'Do we need another hamburger place?' " Scigliano said.

Consider this, he added: "Here the burgers are not on wait for you." At Jake's Wayback Burgers, customers wait "eight minutes for fresh burgers made as you want them."

Scigliano, in a Facebook posting Sunday, Aug. 11, offered additional details about this week's opening:

  • From Jake's Wayback Burgers — The long wait is finally over!! We will be open for business on Thursday August 15th at 1030am. Stop by and try us out!! Jake's Wayback Burgers is a family oriented restaurant that offers both take-out and eat-in. There is also outdoor seating. This is not your typical fast-food restaurant. Everything is made fresh to order. It takes a little longer but is worth the wait. The food here is made the way you would get it in an old-time diner. From our hand-pattied 100% fresh, never frozen ground beef and grilled to order burgers to our amazing shakes that are made from real milk and ice cream, served in a frosty metal — you will notice the difference!!

Scigliano asks guests to remember that "this is a soft opening," which means "everything is new and there will be some technical issues as we all all learning the new register systems and procedures. So we ask you give us a little patience until we can get everything down."

Hours for Jake's Wayback Burgers are Sunday to Thursday, from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Call: 813-681-BURG (2874).
