Thunderstorms Expected In Northern Manatee County

The National Weather Service says an area of strong thunderstorms could impact northeastern Manatee and Southeastern Hillsborough counties.

TAMPA, FL – The National Weather Service says an area of strong thunderstorms could impact northeastern Manatee and Southeastern Hillsborough counties.

At 4:21 p.m., strong thunderstorms were clustered 14 miles southeast of Sun City Center and 16 miles south of FishHawk Ranch, moving northwest at 10 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph are possible. Locations impacted include Sun City Center, Alafia River State Park, Duette, Wimauma, Fort Lonesome and Little Manatee River State Park.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Occasional cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
