Meet an “Amazing” With a Helping Hand That Just Won’t Quit

An Army veteran of 44 years, he's seen it all.

Charles Carroll, age 104, has been volunteering twice a week at the Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, Florida since 2007, and has no plans to stop. He transports patients in wheelchairs, delivers flowers, helps patients with emails and paperwork. Everywhere he goes, he is met with hugs, kisses and high-fives.

Charles’ dedication to Delray Medical stemmed from personal experience: he was brought there after he suffered a heart attack. The quality of care and help he received inspired him to give back in kind; he’s logged more than 3,200 hours of service over the years. An Army veteran of 44 years, he’s seen it all. His mantra throughout? “Keep smiling!”
