12 New Deaths In FL; 1,180 More Coronavirus Cases

Florida health officials reported 12 new deaths from the new coronavirus on Sunday and 1,180 new cases of the virus.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported twelve new deaths from the new coronavirus on Sunday and 1,180 new cases of the virus. Health officials also reported 51 new hospitalizations over the previous 24-hour period.

Florida now has 63,938 confirmed coronavirus cases throughout the state. The state's death toll rose to 2,700 from 2,688 deaths a day earlier.

A total of seven Florida counties reported Sunday's 12 deaths compared to 28 new deaths Saturday, 53 new deaths Friday, 42 new deaths on Thursday, 35 new deaths Wednesday, 71 new deaths Tuesday, seven on Monday and two last Sunday.

Miami-Dade reported no new deaths on Sunday, which is one of the few such days for the county since April. Palm Beach County reported two new deaths. Broward County reported five new deaths.

Duval County reported one new death as did Martin County, Osceola County, Polk County and Washington County.

Miami-Dade reported 19,547 confirmed cases of the virus Sunday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 7,804 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 7,230 cases.

Florida had a 5.3 percent positive test rate for the virus based on a total of 1,217,105 tests that had been administered as of Sunday. The number of hospitalizations in Florida increased to 10,942from 10,891 a day earlier.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 2,748 cases. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 2,316 cases.
