Write a Book

Presented by Martha Commander Colvig Hildreth, author of Bright Blessed Days – Slices of Life in America from 1895 to 1967

Martha’s sister surprised her with a letter from their Aunt Louise to her little sister Julie, their grandmother, from when Julie was just five years old. Imagining their grandma as a little girl was the inspiration for this book, which features family letters and times remembered including vacation during the Depression, the poignancy of Martha’s father’s World War II letters to her mother, and ending with the golden age of post-war prosperity and idealism through the 1950s and ‘60s. Martha’s wish was that her grandchildren, growing up today in such a different world, would know the “olden days” frame of reference, and gain perspective on their own dynamic but sometimes overwrought lives.

“Parts of our relatives live on and are yours to discover. I hope, somehow, you can preserve parts of your experience and nature that are so worth sharing with your heirs,” she says.

Create a Book

Presented by Michelle Donner, scrapbooker, photographer, Stampin’ Up demonstrator

Michelle loves helping people preserve and share their memories “in hard copy,” especially in today’s digital world. She says, “Handing down your photos and paper keepsakes in the form of scans on a disk or thumb drive – which will one day be obsolete – isn’t as personal or fun as presenting someone with a photo album or scrapbook. Books will always be around for everyone to enjoy.”

Michelle will show you two ways to keep memories. A smashbook is a cross between a scrapbook and a journal that doesn’t need fancy planning and is often compiled “on the fly.” Any memories you have – ticket stubs, pictures, postcards, notes – can be glued, taped, tied, stapled in a notebook. Project Life® is an ultra-simple, stylish solution for getting photos off your phone and computer, out of boxes, and into organized albums. It’s a coordinated system that offers everything you need to create something special – just add memories.
