Carjacking Causes Multiple Accidents On Longboat Key Bridge

BRADENTON, FL - An accused carjacker caused multiple vehicle crashes on the Longboat Key Bridge Wednesday, according to police.

Police say Rick Rowland attacked a man and stole his car in Bradenton Beach on Wednesday morning. Rowland crashed the stolen vehicle on the Longboat Key Bridge, hitting several cars and causing five to seven people to be taken to Blake Medical and Sarasota Memorial Hospital, SNN-TV reported. Information on the injuries has not been released.

The crash resulted in debris being scattered across the bridge as traffic was blocked on the north and south sides of the bridge for several hours.

Rowland was arrested and charged with carjacking and battery.
