Crash Leaves One Dead, One Seriously Injured in Manatee County

An elderly man and his female passenger veered off the road and into a tree Thursday night.

A deadly crash in Manatee County has left a man dead and a woman seriously injured.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), 70-year-old Wallace Hough of Lakewood Ranch was driving his 2016 Chrysler van eastbound on University Parkway in the left lane approaching the intersection of Miramar Way at around 10:13 p.m. Thursday when he veered off the roadway, onto a raised median and into a tree.

Hough was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger, 70-year-old Janet Hough, also of Lakewood Ranch, was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Police did not say if the two people were related.

The FHP has not commented on what may have lead the car to veer off the roadway and into the tree.
