Select CVS Pharmacies In FL Offer Vaccine To Teachers Of All Ages

Going against the governor's orders, the CVS pharmacy chain is offering the COVID-19 vaccine to teachers under 50 years old, reports said.

FLORIDA — CVS pharmacies in Florida began offering the coronavirus vaccine to all teachers, regardless of age, Wednesday, as well as day care and preschool workers, WESH reported.

This goes against state orders limiting vaccine eligibility to specific groups. At the start of Florida's vaccine rollout in December, the vaccine was only offered to seniors 65 and older, frontline health care workers, and residents and staff at long-term care facilities.

On Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order expanding eligibility for the vaccine to all K-12 school personnel, police officers and firefighters in the state who are 50 and older.

Even with this expansion, teachers under 50 aren’t eligible for the vaccine in Florida.

CVS said that it’s following President Joe Biden’s orders for retailers in the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program to prioritize educators without any age limit, reports said.
