Driver Says Sun Glare Led To Crash

Two children were sent to Bradenton area hospitals following a crash Saturday morning.

Two children were sent to Bradenton area hospitals for minor injuries after the driver of their car crashed into a parked car due to sun glare, according to Florida Highway Patrol. 

Belinda Michell Waiters, 35, of Bradenton, faces a careless driving charge when her 2009 Toyota Camry went off the road at Chattum Light Run, south of Montauk Point Crossing at 8:09 a.m., Saturday, according to Highway Patrol.

Waters drove eastbound on Chattum Light Run in East Manatee, when she was unable to see because of the sun's glare, and when another car approached her from the west, she swerved to avoid crashing into the oncoming car, and then struck a parked Ford Crown Victoria, according to Highway Patrol.

After striking the parked car, the Camry flipped onto its roof, and landed in both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Chattum Light Run, according to Highway Patrol. 

Waiters and a 14-year-old passenger from Bradenton in her car were sent to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center for minor injuries, according to Highway Patrol.

A 1-year-old girl from Bradenton was sent to Bayfront All Children's Hospital for her minor injuries, according to Highway Patrol.
