Fallen FHP Trooper's Farewell Will Include Multiple Agencies

The final farewell for fallen Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Joseph Bullock will include a multi-agency law enforcement procession.

SARASOTA, FL — Thursday's final farewell to fallen Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Joseph Bullock will include a multi-agency law enforcement procession from Bayside Community Church in Bradenton to Sarasota National Cemetery.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff Thursday outside Bradenton City Hall, the Sarasota County Administration Building, Florida Highway Patrol Headquarters in Tallahassee, the Florida Highway Patrol Regional Office in Fort Pierce and the State Capitol in Tallahassee to honor Trooper Bullock.

The 19-year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol was shot and killed on Feb. 5 in Martin County after he stopped to assist a disabled vehicle along the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, about 40 miles north of West Palm Beach.

A passing Riviera Beach police officer who witnessed the shooting shot and killed the gunman, later identified as 28-year old Franklin Reed III of Palm Bay Florida.

The funeral for Trooper Bullock is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. Feb. 13 at the Bayside Community Church, according to FHP. The church is located at 15800 State Road 64 in Bradenton.

A Florida-Highway Patrol procession will leave Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home for the church at 8:45 a.m.

The public is invited to attend the memorial service and to show their respect for the fallen trooper along procession routes.

"The Florida Highway Patrol welcomes anyone wanting to support the family of fallen Trooper Joseph Bullock along the procession route," FHP said "We ask members of the public standing on the sidewalk or shoulder area not to obstruct travel lanes and exercise an abundance of caution during the procession."

Here is the procession route to the church:

  • Depart Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at 1221 53rd Avenue East, Bradenton
  • Left on 53rd Avenue (State Road 70)
  • Left on Lorraine Road
  • Right on south access to Bayside Community Church
  • Arrive at Bayside Community Church around 9:30 a.m.

The 42-year-old trooper had trained and mentored a number of new troopers as a field training officer. He graduated from the FHP recruit class of August 2001 and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Bullock is survived by his parents and two sisters.

"At the conclusion of the Memorial Service, there will be a multi-agency law enforcement procession from Bayside Community Church to Sarasota National Cemetery," Florida Highway Patrol said.

The cemetery is located at 9810 SR 72, Sarasota, FL, 34241. The multi-agency procession is expected to get underway at 1:15 p.m.

Here is the procession route to the cemetery:

  • Exit south entrance/exit of Bayside Community Church
  • Left on Lorraine Road South
  • Right on University Parkway West
  • Left on Interstate 75 South
  • Exit onto State Road 72 (Clark Rd East), turn left
  • Right on Veteran’s Boulevard South
  • End at Sarasota National Cemetery, anticipated arrival time 2 p.m.

The cemetery service will include an honor guard flag presentation, 21-gun salute, flyover and last call.
