Florida Coronavirus Update: 51 New Deaths, 48,675 Cases
Florida health officials reported the number of coronavirus cases in Florida rose to 48,675 Thursday.
TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported the number of coronavirus cases in Florida rose to 48,675 Thursday, an increase of 1,204 new cases over the previous 24-hour period.
State health officials reported a total of 2,144 deaths involving Florida residents as of Thursday, up from 2,096 a day earlier.
Some Florida state parks began offering limited camping availability ahead of the Memorial Day Weekend on Thursday though cabins remain closed.

Fifteen Florida counties reported 51 new deaths over the previous 24-hour period compared to 43 new deaths Wednesday; 55 new deaths Tuesday; 24 deaths Monday; eight Sunday; 47 Saturday and 41 Friday.
Palm Beach County, which reopened its beaches this week, reported 17 new deaths on Thursday. Miami-Dade reported 13 new deaths. Broward County reported one more death.

Manatee County reported four new deaths. Escambia County reported three new deaths. Sarasota County reported two more deaths as did Volusia County and Walton County.
Charlotte County reported one new death as did Collier County, Duval County, Okaloosa County, Pinellas County, Polk County and Putnam County.
Florida had a 6 percent positive test rate for the virus based on a total of 815,584 tests that had been administered as of Thursday. The number of hospitalizations in Florida increased to 8,946 from 8,681 a day earlier.
State officials disclosed Wednesday that 1,702 tests administered in May were damaged and would have to be retaken. The samples were among 90,000 collected at drive-thru and walk-up test sites during the month thus far.
A total of 27,849 cases — or some 57 percent of the state's total — were in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
Miami-Dade reported 16,367 confirmed cases of the virus as of Thursday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 6,514 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 4,968cases.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 1,767 cases as of Thursday. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 1,726 cases.
