Florida Reports 3,650 New Coronavirus Cases And 176 More Deaths
Florida health officials reported 3,650 confirmed new cases of the virus Friday and another 176 new deaths.
TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported 3,650 confirmed new cases of the virus Friday and another 176 new deaths from the virus as two of the state's hardest hit counties were cleared to move to phase 2 of their reopening and bars in most parts of the state will reopen after this weekend.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Friday that Miami-Dade and Broward County will move to phase 2 of their reopening next week after most of the bars in the state were also cleared to reopen starting Monday.
Thirty-six of Florida's 67 counties reported new deaths Friday. Those counties are Alachua, Baker, Bay, Bradford, Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Clay, Collier, Columbia, Miami-Dade, Duval, Escambia, Gilchrist, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Jackson, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Santa Rosa, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter, Taylor, Union and Volusia.

Friday's total compares to 211 new deaths Thursday, 200 new deaths Wednesday, 44 new deaths Tuesday, 22 new deaths Monday, 38 new deaths Sunday, 61 new deaths Saturday and 100 new deaths last Friday.
The total number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Florida rose to 658,381 Friday, up from 654,731 a day earlier.

Florida's numbers compare to 751,686 cases and 14,103 deaths in California; 671,061 cases and 14,078 deaths in Texas as well as 442,791 cases and deaths in 33,019 New York, according to information compiled by Johns Hopkins.
Florida health officials reported the state's 30th day of daily positivity under 10 percent. The daily positivity rate is calculated by taking the number of people who test PCR-or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive.
Florida's overall positivity rate, which is cumulative, was at 13.5 percent as of Friday based on 4,883,780 total tests.

Miami-Dade, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, reported 163,375 cases of the virus and 2,836 deaths as of Friday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 74,084 cases and 1,276 deaths. Palm Beach County, which includes Palm Beach, West Palm and Boca Raton, reported 43,724 cases and 1,193deaths.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 39,138 cases of the virus and 584 deaths while Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 37,701 cases and 405 deaths.
Sarasota County, which includes the city of Sarasota, reported 7,533cases of the virus and 231 deaths. Manatee County, which includes Bradenton, reported 10,803 cases and 275 deaths. Pinellas County reported 20,795 cases of the virus and 698 deaths while Pasco County reported 8,464 cases and 195 deaths. Polk County, which includes Lakeland, reported 18,228 cases of the virus and 483 deaths.
The total number of deaths in Florida rose to 12,502 on Friday, up from 12,326 a day earlier. Florida's most recent one-day record of 276 reported deaths was set on Aug. 11. Health officials reported another 156 deaths involving non-Florida residents who died in Florida.
The state reported 41,021 hospitalizations up from 40,807 a day earlier. That represents an increase of 214 new hospitalizations over the previous day.
State health officials also reported a total of 2,816 current hospitalization with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19, down from 2,902 current hospitalizations a day earlier.
