Head-On-Collision Leaves 2 Dead On Moccasin Wallow Road: FHP

A 50-year-old Parrish woman and a 95-year-old Sun City Center man are dead after a crash on Moccasin Wallow Road Sunday afternoon, FHP said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — Two people are dead following a head-on-crash on Moccasin Wallow Road Sunday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

Around 3:45 p.m., a Toyota sedan was traveling east on Moccasin Wallow Road, east of Carter Road. At the same time, a Honda SUV was traveling west on Moccasin Wallow, east of the same intersection, FHP said.

Troopers said a Chevrolet Camaro, heading west on Moccasin Wallow Road, passed the Honda by entering the eastbound lane. The Toyota veered right to avoid the car and entered the grass shoulder.

After being passed, the driver of the Toyota tried to drive back into the eastbound lane, but overcorrected, moving into the westbound lane, FHP said. The Toyota and the SUV collided head-on.

The 50-year-old Parrish woman driving the Toyota and the SUV’s passenger, a 95-year-old Sun City Center man, were pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said.

The Toyota’s passenger, a 52-year-old Parrish man, was brought to Blake Medical Center with serious injuries. The SUV’s driver, a 65-year-old woman from Sun City Center, was also brought to Blake in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
