The school finished off the year with a pep rally recognizing state champions.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Mustangs honored their Spring athletic champions at a pep rally Thursday.

The LRHS softball team and senior track and field shot putter Riley Simmons were recognized in a pep rally Thursday, May 27 for being Florida state champions.

LRHS softball won the state championship against Palm Beach Park Vista High School on Saturday, May 22.

They are the first softball team to ever win the state championship in Manatee County.
Head softball coach T.J. Goelz said, “I am extremely proud of our softball team for being state champions.”

Simmons won the state championship for shot put.

“I am so happy and proud of myself for winning the state championship. This has been my goal since freshman year, and I am excited to see my hard work finally pay off,” said Simmons.

Simmons is the only track state champion in Manatee County this year.
Head track and field coach Kristen Wikstrom said, “These are some of the most incredible student athletes ever to grace LRHS.”

A banner will be hung in the school’s gym to honor these state champions and to be seen by future Mustangs.

Manatee schools superintendent Cynthia Saunders said, “I cannot think of a better way to end this year. Congratulations to our state champions. You have made us all very proud.”
