Lobsters in 'Mini's, Jobs Aplenty, Pitter-Patter of Kids Heading Back to School

Looking for work? When do kids return to school? Patch has some answers for you.

Wednesday isn't just hump day, the middle of the work week. There actually are  some intriguing news, events and conversations happening around Bradenton. Here's a quick look:

1.) What's your dream job? The employment market is improving, with more employers posting job notices. Check out the jobs article Patch posted that listed 24 area job openings posted by employers in 24 hours.

2.) When do kids go back to school? It's a question that parents keep asking  (gazing skyward, with hands folded in prayer) and children dread hearing. Aug. 19 is when classes resume. Here is where you find the school calendar.

3.) Police chase. Florida is known for its weird crimes. But why would anyone ever try to outrun a cop? Someone tried and got caught in Bradenton. Here are the details.

4.) Lobsters in Minis? At the stroke of midnight today (Wednesday, July 24), Florida's lobster mini-season started. Yum! But the mini-season also will be gone in the blink of an eye – ending at midnight Thursday. The Coast Guard is reminding the diving and boating community to be safe. For more info on the mini-season, go to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website. Just do it fast!

5.) Help homeless children as they return to school. More than 1,000 kids in Manatee County are homeless. As you help your child prepare for the new school year, think about a small donation to help less fortunate youngsters. Here's where to donate school supplies.
