Local migrants achieve educational goals
Students overcame work, travel and COVID challenges to graduate high school

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Thursday, May 7, several Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Mustangs were recognized at the school’s Migrant Awards ceremony.
According to migrant liaison Sandra Alanis, school is particularly challenging for migrant students, many of whom live in rural eastern Manatee County.

“Many Mustangs live out a Falkner Farms and travel back and forth to Michigan during the summer,” she said. “They usually start school late because they are still in Michigan and often miss out most of the first quarter and a few even later.”

This past year was the most difficult of course with new things in place
“Many that were still in Michigan had no access to a computer or internet and were automatically enrolled in Hybrid classes. That of course affected them,” continued Alanis.
