Sandbag Stations Set To Open In Manatee County

With more rain expected over the upcoming weekend, Manatee County has announced the opening of sandbag locations.

BRADENTON, FL — Manatee County residents concerned about the potential for flooding over the next few days are getting some help. The county has announced plans to open five sandbag locations on Friday, Sept. 1.

“After last weekend’s heavy rains, flooding is still a threat for some in our community,” Emergency Management Chief Sherilynn Burris said in a Wednesday statement. “With more rain expected, we want to make sure affected residents have access to sandbags to prevent additional damage.”

Sandbags will be available to residents of the county from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the following locations:

  • Buffalo Creek Park, 7550 69th St. E., Palmetto
  • G.T. Bray Park, 5502 33rd Ave. Drive W., Bradenton
  • Lakewood Rank Park, 5350 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Bradenton
  • Stormwater Ops, 5511 39th St. E., Bradenton
  • Rubonia Community Center, 1309 72nd St. E., Palmetto

According to the National Weather Service, the Bradenton area is in for a mostly sunny Thursday with a high in the low to mid-90s. Storm chances, however, move in Thursday evening. There’s a 50 percent chance of storms in the area on Friday during the day and evening hours. More rain is expected over the weekend.
