Schools Prepare 9/11 Remembrances

Bayshore Elementary and Buffalo Middle School students will get lessons about 9/11 as they help the community mark the anniversary.

Elementary Students will hear about the meaning and impacts of 9/11 at an assembly today, while Buffalo Middle School students on Tuesday will honor those who lost their lives at a flag placing ceremony.

Bob Delaney, a former NBA Referee and undercover policeman, will speak to fifth-grade students at Bayshore Elementary School at 10 a.m. today as part of the “Bob Delaney Leadership Academy.”

A local resident, Delaney retired from the NBA after 25-years of service and now speaks to military veterans and other groups regarding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He has recently spent time with U.S. Troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

On Tuesday students at Buffalo Creek Middle School will place an American Flag at the school entrance to represent each of the 2,977 people who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks.

The presentation of the flags is based on a similar tradition of placing flags on the Boston Commons on Memorial Day.
