Severe Weather Cancels COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments Tuesday

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — Because of severe weather forecasts for Manatee County and surrounding areas, all second-dose coronavirus vaccine appointments scheduled Tuesday at Tom Bennett Park’s drive-thru clinic have been cancelled, Manatee County’s Public Safety Department shared on Twitter.

These appointments have been moved to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the same location.

Heavy thunderstorms and rain are expected throughout the day Tuesday in the Bradenton area, according to AccuWeather. There’s a 70 percent chance of rain.

Manatee County recently ended its pre-registration system and vaccine lottery as it moves toward operating first-come, first-served vaccine distribution clinics where no appointment is required. The first of these clinics takes place Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Tom Bennett Park, which is located at 400 Cypress Creek Blvd. in Bradenton.

Select Publix, Winn Dixie, Walmart, Sam's Club and CVS locations are offering the COVID-19 vaccine. Check each pharmacy retailer's website to learn about vaccine availability.

A federal site is also open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. nearby in Hillsborough County at the Tampa Greyhound Track at 755 E. Waters Ave. in Tampa. Two mobile satellite sites will also be sent out to vaccinate individuals in underserved areas.
