SRQ Airport: Now More Ninja Friendly
Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport unveiled a new ad starring a Sarasota resident performing parkour through the airport.
Sometimes you need more than the karate chop of the Priceline Negotiator to get through the airport and instead turn to ninja skills. Â Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport shows just that in a new commercial.Â
The 70-second spot features Sarasota's own Sean Morris, 25, who competed on G4's American Ninja Warrior show, which is moving to NBC this year. Morris is known for his parkour skills, or basically, free running, where people jump and flip off of objects. Parkour is used often in military exercises for obstacle courses, so it's more than just for fun.
Patch talked to Morris in 2010 when he and his friend Thomas Hall of Bradenton competed on American Ninja Warrior, and said "he acquired a bunch of random skills over the years from various sports—skateboarding, rock climbing and parkour, in which athletes jump, vault, climb and swing over natural and urban obstacles."Â

For the airport's part, SRQ worked with Be Creative Studios to create the video, which officials hope turn into a viral hit highlighting the convenience of the airport.Â
"Our vision was to create a unique and fast moving piece to compliment the Do You SRQ Campaign showing the convenience and ease of traveling through SRQ," said Rick Piccolo, president and chief executive officer of SRQ airport, in a news release. "We were lucky enough to have an incredible talent in town that could take that vision and turn it into reality and in such a way that anyone of any age can enjoy.”
In the video Morris spins off the checkout counter, around people, over info desks, trash cans, jumps off walls, but takes time to walk normally through the security line to avoid a pat-down and questioning from the TSA agents. And for good measure, another tuck flip at the gate before boarding the plane.Â
"Do you SRQ?" Morris asks at the end.Â
Maybe ninja moves aren't necessarily needed to get to your flight at SRQ as it's much less crowded than major metropolitan airports, and showing up 45-60 minutes early to make your flight works most of the time.
Just make sure you don't Harlem Shake on a plane.
