Tips for Traveling Seniors This Summer
With summer coming and seniors who have more leisure time

ST. LOUIS - MediNurse, now in its fourth decade as the premier provider of private duty nursing in St. Louis, reminds the public to make senior travel safety a top priority. With summer coming and seniors who have more leisure time and a desire to be with grandkids, travel may be on their mind.
Some extra preparation can help to insure a more enjoyable trip:
- Before leaving town, schedule a visit with your physician. A current checkup is always a good idea, and a written medical history with treatment instructions is useful to take with you. Determine if any special vaccinations or medications are required for your destination. Be sure your medication lists are current.
- If crossing time zones, find out how best to adjust a medication and meal schedule.
- If driving or flying for long distances, be sure to stay hydrated and walk or stretch every two hours, at least. If unable to move about, flex ankles and “jog” in place, moving knees up and down.
- If flying, be sure to put all prescription medications in their original containers, in a carry-on with you. Insulin needles require a doctor’s note. Always carry an ID and medical information with you.
- Determine in advance that all lodging accommodations are senior-accessible.
- Along the way, wash hands frequently and use a hand sanitizer to guard against germs!
