Toddler Dies After Being Left in Car, Police Say

A 3-year-old boy was pronounced dead in the 2700 block of 5th Ave E in Palmetto Saturday night, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

According to officials, the boy was accidentally left in the car while his mother and father attended a funeral. Police say the mother and father, who are from Lehigh Acres, drove separate cars to the babysitters to drop off their children before going to the funeral. They dropped of the other children, who are 4 and 5 years old, and then left for the funeral. 

Police believe the boy was left in the car for three hours. He was discovered unresponsive around 4:20 Saturday.

According to officials, an autopsy will be performed Monday to determine the cause of death. 

The investigation continues and at this time, no one has been charged.
