Motorists Shot After Car Breaks Down

The pair told detectives their vehicle broke down and when they tried to get help they got into an argument with a man who pulled a gun and shot them this morning.

The Manatee County Sheriff's department is looking for a man who shot two people at least eight times while they were apparently seeking help after their vehicle broke down early this morning.

Skyla Cowsert, 21,  and Jerewy Thomas, 31, were driving in the 1100 block of 60th Avene Drive East when their vehicle broke down just before 4:30 a.m. today, according to a report from the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. When the pair tried to get help, Thomas got into an argument wih an unknown man in the area.

During the argument the suspect pulled a dark colored semi-automatic pistol and fired at the victims. Thomas was shot at least seven times in the legs and  Cowsert was shot once, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. The shooter ran away from the area.
