Auditions at Carrollwood Players

A role for everyone! Come test out your acting chops!

Have you ever considered trying your hand at live theatre? Carrollwood Players, 4333 Gunn Hwy., Tampa's oldest community theatre has volunteer opportunities for novice to seasoned actors.

Sunday, March 13 & Tuesday, March 15- 7pm
Callbacks Wednesday, March 16 - 7pm

Auditions will be readings from selected speeches in the script (download PDFs below) and a physicality improv. Working class British accents required.

Production Dates are May 13 – 28, 2016.

Roles Available: (7 cast members are needed)

Gavin – 16 year old teen boy who rides a motorbike
Vicki – 15 year old teenage girl who is a bit naïve
Mary – in her 40’s, a British housewife, domestic and devoted to her family
Barbara – 1 Female – in her 40’s, a British housewife, something of a looker
John Smith – cherry man in his forties, a charmer
Stanley Gardner – man in his forties, “a good soul but not overly bright
Dad – in his eighties and fluctuates between senility, alertness, and cussedness.

The sequel to Run for Your Wife finds bigamist taxi driver John Smith still keeping his two families in different parts of London, both happy and blissfully unaware of each other. However, his teenage children, a girl from one family and a boy from the other, have met on the Internet and are anxious to meet in person. Keeping them apart plunges John into a hell hole of his own making. The situation spirals out of control as John juggles outrageously with the truth.

Auditions will consist of cold readings. Many cast members needed.

The 39 Steps

Sunday, April 10 & Monday, April 11 - 7pm

Please prepare a memorized high energy short comedic monologue featuring a dialect. Be prepared for additional cold readings from the script. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. You will be asked to demonstrate dialect skills at the audition. Work on English, Scottish and German.

Roles Available: (4 cast members are needed)

RICHARD HANNAY: (Age range early 30’s to late 40s)

An attractive leading man, not too young and not too old. Relatively ordinary, but looks dapper in a nice suit. Thinks of himself as commonplace. Middle/upper class cultured English dialect with precise diction. (NOT cockney). This role requires physical agility and stamina, physical comedy skills and excellent comic timing.

ANNABELLA, MARGARET, PAMELA: (Age range 25 to 40s)

All three roles will be played by one woman:
A beautiful, nervous, seductive German spy
A Scottish farmer’s wife
A beautiful British woman

This role requires character and dialect versatility, physical stamina, excellent comic timing, and the romantic style of a Hitchcock leading lady.

“CLOWN” 1 and “CLOWN” 2: (2 M but will consider 1 M and 1 F. Age range 20s – 50s)

The 2 clowns, in the English Music Hall tradition, play approx. 150 characters of every type imaginable, changing characters frequently, sometimes within seconds. These roles require strong character ability and versatility, vocal variety, physical stamina to perform fast-paced verbal and physical comedy, excellent comic timing, strong diction and enunciation skills, multiple dialects, and extreme focus.

A man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she’s a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called “The 39 Steps” is hot on the man’s trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale! A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, The 39 Steps amounts to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure!

Rehearsals will start immediately after casting. No performers paid. Cast members who are dues paying members of Carrollwood Players Theatre receive one complimentary ticket to the production. All cast members who log their hours are also eligible for CWP’s monthly volunteer prize drawings, which include free show tickets and gift card prizes.
