Former HCC Standout Named To Florida's Basketball Hall Of Fame
Othello Hunter is the first HCC player in the history of the college to be named to the FCSAA's Basketball Hall of Fame.

TAMPA, FL – Hillsborough Community College Men’s Basketball alumnus, Othello Hunter, is the first HCC player in the history of the college to be named to the Florida College System Activities Association’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

The 6-foot-8-inch hoopster was literally head and shoulders above his fellow students, which proved to be an advantage on the court as a member of the HCC men’s basketball team from 2004 to 2006.

In 2005, he was named HCC male student-athlete of the year and an NJCAA All-American team member.
In 2006, Hunter was named to the FCSAA/NJCAA all-tournament team, all-state team and was a first team all-conference selection. He is still HCC’s all-time leader in rebounding and blocked shots.

After graduating from HCC, Hunter played for Ohio State University. In his first year, he led the Buckeyes to a national championship appearance and to an NIT Championship the following year.
He went on to play professionally for the Atlanta Hawks before leaving to play overseas in Europe.
Now 32, Hunter recently signed a two-year contract to play for CSKA Moscow, Russia’s national basketball team
“Othello continues to give his time, talents and donations to Hillsborough Community College,” said HCC Athletic Director and Men’s Basketball Coach Derrick Worrels. “Othello comes back every year, splitting time between his home in Winston-Salem and here in Tampa, working with our student-athletes. He has been one of the most-respected young men in the history of our program, both on and off the court.”
