The Weeknd Makes Special Delivery To Carrollwood Health Workers

In honor of Black History Month, The Weeknd had 150 meals from Mama's Southern Soul Food Restaurant​ delivered to AdventHealth Carrollwood.

CARROLLWOOD, FL — On Monday, team members at AdventHealth Carrollwood, 7171 N. Dale Mabry Highway, received a very special delivery from Super Bowl halftime performer The Weeknd, thanks to Postmates.

In honor of Black History Month, The Weeknd had 150 meals from Mama’s Southern Soul Food Restaurant at 3701 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa, delivered to the team members at the hospital.

Many of these team members will be able to attend the Super Bowl in person on Sunday thanks to free tickets distributed to front-line medical personnel by the NFL to thank them for their life-saving work during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Super Bowl at Raymond James Stadium Feb. 7 will have a limited number of 22,000 fans in the stand, representing about one third of Raymond James Stadium's 65,890 capacity. Among them will be 7,500 vaccinated health care workers who received free Super Bowl Tickets and game day experiences to honor their service during the pandemic, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced.

All 32 NFL clubs will select vaccinated health care workers from their communities to attend the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, although the majority will come from Tampa Bay and Central Florida.

Kickoff for Super Bowl LV featuring the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. the Kansas City Chief is at 6:30 p.m. The 2021 Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show featuring The Weeknd is slated to begin at 8 p.m.

The three-time Grammy-winning artist is described as "one of today's most compelling and significant artists of a generation."

In less than a decade, The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfae. has amassed a global fan base and become a multi-award winning artist. He was named one of the most influential people of 2020 by Time Magazine and is known for his genre-bending music and redefining storytelling, both sonically and visually.

"We all grow up watching the world's biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position. I'm humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year," The Weeknd said.

The NFL will also recognize health care heroes around the country through a variety of special moments both in the stadium and during the CBS broadcast.

"These dedicated health care workers continue to put their own lives at risk to serve others, and we owe them our ongoing gratitude," said Goodell. "We hope in a small way that this initiative will inspire our country and recognize these true American heroes. This is also an opportunity to promote the importance of vaccination and appropriate health practices, including wearing masks in public settings."
