Capitol Theatre Construction Coming Along

Roof panels for the new portion of the Capitol Theatre were put into place Thursday in Clearwater.

Osceola Avenue was closed between Cleveland and Pierce streets as crews worked the concrete panels into place as part of construction that will expand its space.

The theater,  in the state, will feature seating for 655, a rooftop terrace and wraparound balcony when it reopens in the fall.

The Capitol Theatre closed in March so work could begin to restore its Mediterranean Revival look.

As crews worked to renovate it they discovered a nearly 20-foot-tall, painted “Wall of Honor” listing names most likely compiled from Clearwater servicemen during World War I in April.

City officials are not sure how, but they are working on a way to be able to preserve the nearly 100-year-old memorial.
